Levitt was born in Volmerz in the district of Main-Kinzig-Kreis, a small town near theGerman city of Frankfurt. In 1935 he moved with his family to Dayton (Ohio, USA)fleeing Nazi persecution. Studied Dayton Elementary School, where he wrote articles for the school magazine column. Later he began his secondary education at the HighSchool of Dayton, combining it with a little work as a reporter at the Dayton Herald.He finished his studies he joined the army and fought in World War II, on his return he graduated in economics from Antioch University receiving his AB in 1949. Two years later obtained a doctorate in economics from Ohio State University and began teaching at the University of North Dakota. In 1959 he accepted a professorship at theHarvard Business School. Upon retiring from teaching he was appointed ProfessorEmeritus at the University of Harvard in May 2003. He died of cancer on June 28, 2006 at his home in Belmont, Massachusetts.
Theodore Levitt (n. Vollmerz, Main-Kinzig-Kreis, Germany. March 1, 1925 - Belmont,Massachusetts June 28, 2006) was the American economist and professor at the prestigious Harvard Business School (Cambridge, Massachusetts). Business magazine editor also Harvard Business Review (HBR) where he published his famous article. It was the first theoretical economist to coin the term globalizationfocused on economic standpoint.
